When Ramesses II was close to dying he was suffering from severel dental problems. He finally died at the age of about 90 years old. He was pharoah from 1279 B.C. to 1213 B.C. a total of 66 years. Some believe that he lived until 99 but that isn’t very unlikely. He had lived longer than many of his wives and 90 children and left great memorials all over Egypt, especially for his first queen Netertari His succesor was his thirteenth son Merneptah. Nine more pharaohs would take the name Ramesses in his honor but hardly any ever equalled his greatness. Ramesses did become the legendary pharaoh he was eager to become. Many feared that once Ramesses II died Egypt wouldn’t survive and they were right. Less than 150 years after Ramesses died the Egyptian empire fell. His descendants lost their power and the New Kingdom came to an end.
