
Ramesses II, also known as Ramesses The Great , and alternatively transcribed as Ramses and Rameses, was born around 1303 B.C. At age fourteen he was appointed Prince Regent by his father Seti to exercise the full powers of the king.His father was King Seti and his mother was Queen Tuy. He took the throne in his early 20’s in 1279 B.C. He was the third pharaoh of the 19th dynasty.He had over 200 children. Ramesses II held 14 sed festivals during his reign, that is more than any other pharaoh has done before. The sed festival or the Heb Sed or Feast of the Tail was an ancient Egyptian ceremony held to celebrate the continuous ruling of a pharaoh. The name comes from the name of an Egyptian wolf godnamed Wepwawet or Sed.
